About what it takes to finish

Four steps from your front door to the summit

There is no form to fill out and no list to join. You confirm in the app that you are eligible, then start the route. That is your registration.

1

Download and sign in

Get Siyan Stride from the App Store or Google Play and sign in. You can download any time before November 2.

2

Connect your steps

Connect Apple Health or Health Connect so your steps count on their own. There is nothing to log by hand.

3

Start on November 2

Open Journeys, choose Kilimanjaro: Machame Route and confirm you are eligible, then tap Start free preview (first 10 miles). That is your entry.

4

Walk

Open the app about once a week so your steps sync. Miss a day? Walk a little more on another. Nothing resets.

Joining later is fine. Every one of the 54,700 steps still has to be walked by November 22, so a late start means more steps each day.

The Machame Route, with postcards on the way

Everyone walks the same 24.9-mile route up Kilimanjaro. As you pass each landmark, the app sends you a postcard.

  1. Machame Gate
    Where every walker starts.
  2. Machame Camp
Your first postcard, about day 6.
  3. Shira Plateau
Your second postcard, about day 9.
  4. Lava Tower
    The halfway landmark.
  5. Barafu Camp
The last camp before the summit.
  6. Uhuru Peak
5,895 meters (19,341 feet), the highest point in Africa. Your certificate is waiting.

At about day 9

The free preview pauses at mile 10. Your steps keep counting.

You can keep walking and finish without buying anything. Premium Plus unlocks the rest of the route and its postcards on your screen as you go.

If you upgrade later, every step you walked while paused is credited at once.

Finish and be entered to win

The first 300 eligible finishers get the $5 Amazon gift card. The six bigger prizes are drawn at random from all eligible finishers. Amazon gift cards work only in the Amazon store of the country they are issued for; if one cannot be used where you live, you get a substitute as described in the Official Rules.

Two kinds of rewards

The $5 Amazon gift cards go to the first 300 finishers, in the order they reach 54,700 steps. The six bigger prizes are drawn at random from all eligible finishers: each finisher has one entry, so walking more than the finish line does not change your chance in the draw. The draw happens on November 30 and winners are emailed on December 1. Winners must reply by 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on December 14 to accept their prize. Winner information is never announced without the winner’s consent.

Prize values, odds and eligibility are in the Official Rules, including how many finisher rewards are available.

Try Premium Plus free for one month with code KILI30

In the app, go to Profile, View membership options, then Redeem a code, and enter KILI30. Available November 2 to November 17, for new Premium Plus subscribers only. After the free month, your plan renews at $7.99 a month or $59.99 a year (US prices; your store shows your local price) unless you cancel. Siyan cannot issue refunds, because they are up to Apple and Google. See the step-by-step guide.

You never need it to finish or to win.

Walk with your people

Friends, families, walking groups, senior communities and office teams can all take part. Each person walks their own Kilimanjaro route and cheers each other on in their own group chat. The app’s shared group journey adds everyone’s steps together, so it does not count for this challenge.

Quick answers

Do I have to pay to take part?

No. Joining, walking, finishing and winning never require a purchase. After the free preview pauses at 10 miles, your steps keep counting toward the finish.

How many steps do I need?

54,700 synced steps on the Kilimanjaro route between November 2 and November 22. That is about 2,600 steps a day for 21 days.

What counts as a step?

Steps synced from Apple Health or Health Connect. Open the app about once a week so they sync. Steps entered by hand do not count toward finishing.

How are the six prize winners chosen?

By a random draw from all eligible finishers, on November 30. Each finisher has one entry, and the draw is recorded so it can be checked. The $5 Amazon gift cards are different: they go to the first 300 finishers, in order.

What is KILI30?

A code for one month of Premium Plus free. Cancel before it ends or you will be charged $7.99 a month (US price); Siyan cannot refund, as that is up to Apple and Google. Steps are in the full FAQ. It is optional and not needed to finish or win.

Who can take part?

Adults 18 and older (and of legal age where they live) in most countries. Some countries and regions are excluded: see the full list in the Official Rules. Siyan Clinical employees and contractors can take part, but staff who run the challenge or the draw cannot win the six drawn prizes.
